What is Udayam
Udayam is a comprehensive rehabilitation project founded on the powerful values of compassion and empathy. The project was born during the COVID-19 lockdown of March 2020 when the Kozhikode District Administration blazed a trail to safeguard the homeless people left alone in the Kozhikode streets. The District Administration with the support of reputed NGOs came to the aid of these individuals and accommodated them in various camps set up in the district. The Social Justice Department, in collaboration with organizations like the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS), Daya Rehabilitation Trust and other NGOs undertook their psychosocial assessments and interventions, making significant headway in transforming their lives. So far, more than a thousand people have received support in different forms through Udayam. Around 240 people can reside at three different Udayam Homes across the district, directly supervised by the District Collector and the Udayam Core Committee. We at Udayam, provide them with food, shelter, adequate medical and psychosocial care. Currently, we are focusing on a sustainable livelihood program for the residents of Udayam homes by providing skill-based training and facilitating employment.
